Malakai is an adornment brand that is recognized for its iconic celebrity pieces and strong connection to alternative culture. The brand's values of artistry, craftsmanship, and a connection with the earth guide the design of its creations. With each genderless adornment, Malakai aims to challenge conventional ideas of beauty and bring imagination to life.
Malakai, which was founded in the year 2022 in both Berlin and New York City, is a continuation of House of Malakai and named after its creative director. House of Malakai was established in 2013, at the brand's atelier in Bali, Indonesia. Malakai's wearable art, millinery, and jewelry quickly gained popularity among celebrities such as Beyoncé, Madonna, Rihanna, FKA Twigs, Erykah Badu, CL, Doja Cat, and Nicki Minaj. The pieces have been featured in various fashion publications including Vogue, Dazed, W Magazine, V, Rolling Stone, and many others. Malakai is responsible for creating the iconic headdress and body jewelry for Beyoncé's remarkable performance at the 2017 Grammy Awards "Love Drought." During the Paris AW17 catwalk, Malakai headpieces were showcased for designers such as Rick Owens, Balmain, and Manish Arora. Known for its quality, craftsmanship, and innovative techniques, the brand has become a popular source for celebrity stylists, music videos, global campaigns, and collaborations.
Malakai and House of Malakai are established couture labels and streetwear brands alike: ready-to-wear collections that have hit cult status among fashion-forward youth, particularly in London, Tokyo, New York, Berlin, and Seoul. Malakai’s creations are marked by their attention to detail and use of handcrafted, sustainably sourced materials in combination with modern digital techniques.
Malakai draws inspiration from the past and future: science, high fashion, revolutionaries, archaeological digs, and underground movements. Seamlessly weaving ancient culture with technology, the work transcends time and place. It feels like a FAMILIAR MEMORY OF SOMETHING WE’VE NEVER SEEN BEFORE.
